The Hollow
The thing hunting you is blind. It hunts sound - your footsteps, your flashlight's click, your breathing when you sprint.
You are somewhere under a facility with a flashlight on a dying battery, and something is down here with you that cannot see at all.
Every noise you make is a beacon. Standing still is silence and the only truly safe state. Walking carries six metres. Sprinting carries twenty-two - and then you breathe for four seconds afterwards, which is the trap. Clicking the flashlight on carries fourteen metres, and so does clicking it off, which is the cruellest detail in the design: the light itself is free, so the tense decision is never "should I have light" but "can I afford to change my mind".
How it plays
- Find three keys, then reach the lift. They are hidden in three of eight possible rooms and they move every time you die.
- The creature is verifiably blind. No vision cone, ever, even when it is next to you. Its only input is a queue of noise events, and a code-level test asserts that a silent player standing beside it is never caught. Standing still always works.
- You always know where it is. A continuous low sound tracks its distance and direction, so the horror is what you do with the information, not the absence of it.
- The battery holds about three minutes of light across a ten-to-fifteen minute run, so most of the game is spent in the dark, reading the emergency strips.
- The facility never changes. Learning the building is the progression - only the keys move when you die.
The only saturated colour in the game is the emergency lighting. Everything else is concrete, rust and the shape of your own beam in the air.
Headphones recommended. Audio is the primary information channel here, not decoration - muted, this is a different and much worse game.
