Ashfall
The ash never stops falling. Dig out your shelter, your well, your crops — and choose what to let it bury.
Ash falls on a 120-metre plain and never stops. It settles on the ground, on your roof, on your crops, on you — and every metre you shovel off one thing lands on another, because the ash you dig is displaced, not deleted. You have twelve days under an erupting volcano, and you cannot clear everything.
How it plays
- Dig with
Spaceor the left mouse button. Each swing lifts 0.25 m of ash from a 1.2 m disc in front of you and throws it 3.2 m — onto ground you may need later. - The plain is a live 240×240 depth field. Past 0.3 m your speed halves, past 0.7 m you crawl, and over a metre deep a lung meter starts.
- Everything you build loads up. A lean-to buries at 0.40 m, a well cover at 0.30 m, a windbreak at 0.90 m — each creaks and sheds dust before it comes down, so you are always choosing what to abandon.
- Timber sits 1–4 swings down, stone 4–8, buried where you cannot see it; the one well is 18–30 m from where you start.
- Sleep in a standing lean-to with
Rto reach the next day; sleeping without one costs about a third of your health.
Everything is grey — fresh ash, settled ash, exposed rock — and depth reads from value alone, so you can read a drift's depth without a UI. The only saturated colour in the frame is fire: your lamp, and the caldera on the horizon.
