Tessera

You rotate the board, not the pieces — and then you watch everything fall.

A grid of coloured tiles sits under gravity. You cannot move a tile. Your only move is to rotate the entire board 90 degrees — after which everything falls again into a new configuration. Match the pattern shown beside the board, in as few rotations as you can.

Two buttons is the whole game. The pleasure is entirely mental: it is a game about predicting a physics settle, and the animation of the fall is the reward.

How it plays

  • Twelve levels, from a 4x4 with two colours you can solve by accident to a 7x7 with four colours, walls and six rotations to find.
  • Par is a proven floor, not a guess. The move set has size two, so every level's whole rotation graph is enumerated exhaustively at build time: the par you are shown is the true minimum number of rotations, and matching it exactly is the thing to chase.
  • No move limit, no fail state, and no timer. Undo is unlimited and reset is a held key. A puzzle game that can be lost teaches players to stop experimenting, and experimenting is the loop.
  • Only the pattern matters, not which way up it is — so a solution found sideways still counts, and the game is never a rotation-parity riddle.
  • Nothing is textured. Every pixel is drawn: rounded rects, one palette, no glow and no post. The four tile colours also carry a distinct inner glyph, so the board is readable with no hue information at all.

The final screen shows your total moves against the total par — the single number worth improving.

Plays with KeyboardMouseTouch
A or Left rotates the board counter-clockwise, D or Right rotates it clockwise. Z undoes, as often as you like. Esc pauses; hold Esc to reset the level. Space or a tap on the board moves on once it is solved. On touch, the same four verbs are drawn as on-screen glyphs and a swipe across the board rotates it.
